Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown has become a known member of the Wisconsin community, constantly making appearances at charity events. This weekend was no different as he and Mayfield Sports Marketing once again traveled to Brookfield, Wisconsin to help Tricia's Troops bring relief and support to families affected by cancer.

Tricia's Troops Origins

Cancer is such an awful disease. Not only does it drain a person’s body of their health, youth, and vigor, but it strains those suffering from it and their families in other ways. Chances are that you, yourself, have had or have had a loved one experience cancer. Undoubtedly, their physical sufferings, along with the emotional, mental, and spiritual tolls of the disease and its treatment, are all-too-familiar.

Such was the case for Tricia Wright. A native of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Tricia was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer on January 16, 2010. Additionally, her diagnosis included metastasis to her liver and lungs. At the time, Tricia was 35, married, and the mother of two little girls. While her prognosis was not good, Tricia and her family opted to fight the disease with chemotherapy.

As many know, chemotherapy is not an easy treatment. Members of her church, Dr. Martin Luther Church, provided her and her family with cards and meals. Eventually, they became known as Tricia’s Troops. Per the Tricia’s Troops website, "Tricia and her family realized that the support they received from their friends and community was not something that all cancer patients and families received."

For this reason, Tricia and her husband started a non-profit organization called Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection. Their goal was to provide the love and support they received after her diagnosis to every family affected by cancer.

Tricia Wright died on April 26, 2012, 15 months after her diagnosis. Her legacy of kindness and care for others certainly lives on in the foundation that she started.

Mayfield Sports Marketing & Gilbert Brown Join the Cause

Gilbert surprises Kara Mayfield on her first anniversary of beating breast cancer with a gift.

Mayfield Sports Marketing and Packers legend Gilbert Brown were proud to once again partner with Tricia’s Troops. Together, they helped raise money to bring relief and support to families affected by cancer.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, Gilbert and Mark Mayfield joined Tricia's Troops in Brookfield, Wisconsin for a charity event that has raised over $100,000 at an event in previous years.

“We are absolutely honored and humbled to work with Candi, Bill, and the entire Wright family on the Tricia’s Troops events," Mark said. "Packers legend Gilbert Brown, and I have attended the event since 2015. The work that they do is very inspiring, and we are proud to assist in their mission.”

This is a continuation of Mark's non-profit work. In the past, he has worked with players such as, Ahman Green, Hall of Famer Leroy Butler, Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer, Hall of Famer Dave Robinson, Kenny Clark and Olympians Bonnie Blair and Chellsie Memmel.

In addition, if you or someone you love is facing a battle with cancer, please visit the Tricia’s Troops Programs page on their website.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling Looks to Replace “The Cheetah” in Kansas City

The NFL offseason brings a plethora of changes for all teams and many players. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a former fifth round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers, has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs after four years in Green Bay. The Chiefs were in need of another speedy threat after Tyreek Hill departed for the Miami Dolphins. Now, MVS will look to make the sure high-powered Chiefs offense does not miss “The Cheetah” too much.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling with the Green Bay Packers

Marquez Valdes-Scantling first took the field for the Green Bay Packers in 2018. Though a later round pick, he played in all 16 games. MVS hauled in 38 receptions for 581 yards and two touchdowns. In 2019, he again played all 16 games catching 26 passes for 452 yards and two touchdowns.

2020 saw Valdes-Scantling have a career year for the Green Bay Packers. Again playing in all 16 games, MVS had 33 receptions for 690 yards and six touchdowns. He also led the NFL with 20.9 yards per reception. In the Packers loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC title game, MVS was the lone bright spot on offense. He had four receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Last season, Marquez Valdes-Scantling played in 11 out of 17 games. He had 26 receptions for 430 yards and three touchdowns. While this may seem to indicate a drop in production, Chiefs fans can be encouraged by this: MVS had zero drops in 2021. Once considered a weakness in his game, it has become a strength.

Can Marquez Valdes-Scantling Replace Tyreek Hill?

Of course, few wide receivers can boast the same accomplishments of Tyreek Hill during his tenure with the Chiefs. Six Pro Bowls and three First Team All-Pro selections are remarkable achievements. Hill also had over 1,000 yards receiving in four of his six seasons with the Chiefs.

While it may not seem like MVS is up to the task, one must keep in mind that MVS never received the number of targets that Hill did. The most targets MVS ever had in a season was 73, and that was in his rookie season. The fewest Hill ever had in a season was 83, also in his rookie season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have also signed former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuester. He brings a much different skill-set to the Chief’s offense than MVS. Additionally, MVS will be in an offense that is better suited to his style of play. What this all means is that MVS is sure to see more targets with the Chiefs. This will undoubtedly lead to more production and better numbers.

Can MVS replace Tyreek Hill? He has a better chance than most.

If you’re looking for a way to increase sales and improve overall brand awareness, prominent sports figures are attractive options. Their athletic prowess gives them instant credibility to any product, particularly anything related to those geared towards athletes. With that being said, their celebrity alone will influence fans to want to be like them and be associated with the same products or services. Your business would most likely benefit from this association, and this is true whether it’s a big name or not and for pretty much any type of product, service, or business.

Increased Sales

While the actual influence celebrity athletes have regarding advertising is a matter of debate, a Harvard University professor and Barclays Capital conducted a study that indicated sales growth compared to their previous numbers and overall placement in the market as well. The study showed an average increase of around 4%, with more considerable gains from those with higher status. Fans of a particular team or specific athlete will be more inclined to purchase a product or use a service endorsed by them.

Increased Awareness

One key aspect of growing your brand is making people aware of your brand. Attaching a local or national athlete quickly raises awareness for anyone who’s a fan of that individual or the team for which they play. Once people are aware of your brand’s products or services, they would be more likely to purchase from you. A potential customer’s favorable feelings towards the celebrity athlete can and often will translate to your company. Aaron Rodger's State Farm commercials and Brett Favre's Wrangler commercials are just a couple of examples.

Social media promotion by an athlete can increase that awareness even more. According to Opendorse, athletes on social media drive 4.8 times the engagement of media accounts, 3.6 times the engagement of league accounts, 2.4 times the engagement of team accounts, and 2.1 times the engagement of influencer accounts. It just goes to show how associating your brand with an athlete can push awareness and engagement through the roof.

Utilize Local Celebrity Athletes

Keep it local, and consider using a celebrity athlete from your home team. A small business that uses a local athlete of any profile brings much-wanted attention and awareness to your brand and business. For example, in Green Bay or anywhere in the state of Wisconsin, having any member of the Green Bay Packers at your event or endorsing your product will generate interest and get more eyes on you. Sticking to someone who is known and admired or associated with a known and admired team, locally and with your target market, pays huge dividends.

Ways to Include Celebrity Athletes

Once you’ve decided to utilize a celebrity athlete to help market your product or service, you need to know how to utilize a celebrity athlete. There are various ways to do so, and whichever way you choose will depend on what’s the best fit for your business and your products or services. The first way would be to have them endorse your brand. An endorsement could be digital, radio, print, television, etc., advertising depending on where you’re most likely to find your target market.

If you have an event coming up, having a celebrity appearance will bring more attention and most likely increase attendance. You can add an autograph signing session as part of your event or even have the signing be the event that you’re hosting. Either way, associating the celebrity athlete with your brand is the key. You can also sponsor a celebrity athlete to do a motivational speech for a local school or organization. Approaching your relationship this way gives the double whammy of giving back to the community as well as associating you with the athlete.

Mayfield Sports Marketing is a leading sports marketing agency and speaker bureau. Whether your company is small or large, our team can search our network of current and retired celebrity athletes available based on appearance fees, team, location, or sport. [vc_row equal_height="yes"][vc_column][vc_column_text]Looking to add a little more inspirational content to your next event? Hiring a sports star or Sports Athlete Speaker could be just the boost that you need to bring people together, get them to aim a little higher, and carry some powerful messages out into the world with them.

There is a reason that sports are such fertile topics for inspiring people. It's all about rising to challenges and overcoming personal limitations in order to reach a goal - and that is an applicable skill that can easily be transferred into anyone’s life or work scenario.

Sports are also accessible - we have all played and watched them, enjoyed the thrill of cheering for our favorite team, and shared a feeling of glory in their victory. The fascination is that few make it as talented star athletes for the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB - and the particular mix of dedication and talent that it takes makes for a fascinating story. If you’re aiming to inspire action in a group of people there really is no better fit than a tale of guts and glory to get everyone fired up.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Why You Should be Hiring a Sports Star?

Boosting Team Morale
Every good company out there has improving and maintaining the morale of their staff at the top of the agenda. When people are brought into the vision and values that your business has chosen, they perform a lot better consistently. They have a motivation that runs over and above things like pay structures and bonuses. And this has so many parallels with the life and performance of an elite athlete who plays for the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB.

Increasing Dedication
To succeed in the world of sports, it takes more than focus. It takes a sense of dedication to a wider goal. Athletes who have risen to the top of their game don’t get there by chance. They get there by believing in something and committing themselves to it. That means they are perfectly placed to explain this sense of a higher purpose to an audience. Speaking of dedication, athletes like Brett Favre, Desmond Howard and Davante Adams might boost your attendance at your next event!

Improving Self-Worth
There is a lot to be learned about moving forward even on a bad day or when you don’t want to, finding your inner drive and strength, keeping consistent work, and sometimes recovering from setbacks and adversity. Players such as Jerry Kramer have embodied this focus and sense of purpose and channeled it into his work to the accolade and enjoyment of millions of sports fans. What could your staff do if they were inspired to tap into the same sense of purpose?[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

What Do Sports Athlete Speakers Do?

At Mayfield Sports Marketing, our sports stars are useful for a variety of reasons, including business promotions, motivational speaking, and community involvement.

Motivational Speaking

Using their sporting experience and entertaining real-world examples from their careers, they can give the audience an intimate look into the hidden world of excellence in professional sports.

Our sports athletes can aim to challenge behaviors, set new expectations, and teach the secrets of success to your guests. Every speech is designed as a catalyst for change in the lives of others - be that a big challenge, or the alteration of everyday behavior which could add up to a big result.

Perhaps your group seeks a speaker such as: Tony Dungy, Emmitt Smith or Aaron Jones. The Mayfield Sports Marketing team can source athletes and speakers by working with the athlete directly, their marketing team or agent.

Our speakers give a brand new perspective. They provide exciting and engaging examples for people to follow. They educate the audience to think about self-development and becoming the very best version of themselves. And the impact they leave in their wake can last a lifetime for those who hear them speak.

Endorsing A Product
There is so much more to the services Mayfield Sports Marketing can offer in addition to inspiring speaking engagements. Another way that our professional sports athletes can work with your business is through product endorsement.

Through the power of the connection they form with people and the public esteem that they enjoy, our athletes can give the halo effect to your products or services by sharing the impact they can have. Coming from a position of authority, tapping into this powerful influence can really give your marketing strategy a boost. When you see Packers Aaron Jones or Jaire Alexander, you may think Oakley Sunglasses. Perhaps when you watch Davante Adams play on Sunday you see those sweet Jordan Brand cleats and gloves he wears. Finally, bringing attention to brands like Wrangler, Mastercard, or Green Eagle, you think Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

You can also leverage the platforms and exposure of these stars to have your branding and messaging reach a far wider audience - people who may not have come into contact with what you do before. By positioning your product with a prominent sports figure, whom the public associate with positive values such as teamwork, dedication, and hard work, your marketing message is amplified.

People can enjoy the feeling of affiliation with those values and our athletes by using the same service or product. Endorsements have many positive benefits for your business. They help to build brand equity - we can all think of successful examples of a brand partnering with a well-known figure and going on to enjoy a new level of success.

You are also building a lasting association with great values - when people see their favorite sports star in action, they will now also think of your brand. This can help your business to stand out and gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

How To Build Your Perfect Corporate Event

Mayfield Sports Marketing can work with you to assess your needs and create an event that delivers on your aims. We work through a process which allows us to assess your needs and help you decide on the ideal way to deliver them. Whether it's a product launch, the opening of a new premises, a fundraising event for a charitable cause, or a motivational speaking engagement, we can find the right sports athlete that suits your goals.

Start off by sending a description of your event to request a quote. Then it's a simple process to start building your event:

  1. Decide what you would like the athlete to do at your event - are they giving a speech? Do they have specific things to be mentioned in them? Would you like them to interact with a product? Should they try out a service and give their thoughts? How interactive would you like the format of the event to be?
  2. Based on the event brief you’ve created, which athlete speaker would be the best fit for your event? Think about their personal qualities and the stories they have from their career. We can best advise on how to match the expertise of the speaker to the particular aims of your event.
  3. Understand what you want the audience to take away from the event. Is the idea for them to be left uplifted, or to get practical tips on overcoming challenges? Do you want them to feel inspired to make changes within their own lives? What one feeling do you want them to step away with? Are there follow-up activities you have planned to help them keep on track?
  4. Plan out your marketing. Any successful event depends on spreading the word - and with a star athlete on board, people will want to know about your event. Think about an event marketing plan - this could include email marketing, social media campaigns, internal communications to staff, or some display advertising to let people know what you have planned and get them bought into the event.
  5. Know your budget. A good corporate event is one that delivers on its objectives and does so within a predetermined budget. Once you have a budget planned out, track your spending in an event budget planner so that you can see how much you are working through and keep things on course for success.

The best way to get the response you’re looking for at your next motivational event is by hiring a professional sports athlete speaker. For your business to achieve greatness, your employees need to be motivated. While the business year may start off promising, you may start to notice a lack of productivity and focus. Employees become focused on simply achieving their everyday tasks while lacking sight of the big picture. A visit from a professional athlete as your motivational speaker may be just what your business needs.

Motivational speakers have been rising in popularity for decades. Bringing someone in to talk to your employees, virtually or in person, can be just the inspiration and motivation needed.  Providing hope that they can tap into their own talents and make a positive change in their lives. If you’re unsure whether this is the right choice for your employees, here are some of the top reasons why your business needs a motivational speaker now more than ever.

What Makes A Good Motivational Speaker?

The most important thing a motivational speaker does is light a spark in your employees. Doing so requires someone who can encourage them to embrace where they’re at in life and strive to do better. A good motivational speaker is made from years of hard work, determination, and overcoming their own obstacles. Being open about their professional failures and accomplishments allows speakers to connect with your audience on a personal level while keeping their attention throughout the duration of their speech.  This will encourage and grow enthusiasm in the workplace and inspire employees to do their best work.

What Results Can I Expect?

Motivational speakers boost the drive and motivate your employees to do more, be more, and give more. An increase in workplace happiness will encourage a more focused, energetic atmosphere. Improvements among your staff will likely last for days, weeks, and even months after attending a motivational speaker, virtually or in person. You should notice a change in your staff, from mediocrity to becoming an engaged team who will work together to boost the profitability of the business.

What Motivation Speakers Can We Connect You With?

At Mayfield Sports Marketing, we have a great network of professional athletes that excel at motivational speaking, whether you’re looking to host a virtual or in-person event. Mayfield Sports Marketing can connect with booking agents for players like:
